I made this new victorian stained glass artwork so it would look like an old victorian stained glass window for a house in Pennsylvania that was built over a century ago. Somehow, they had lost or misplaced one of the matching stained glass windows. A
new homeowner brought a new desire to restore the house, and replacing this
missing artwork became a priority, particularly because this
replacement would match other stained glass artworks elsewhere in the
home.
Matching the design was not hard; I was able to utilize the photos you
see below, which were sent to me by the client. Matching new
glass to century-old glass was a much tougher task. Luckily, this
replacement
stained glass panel is off by itself on a staircase landing. This meant
that the
match had to be close but not necessarily exact.
The photo above was taken just after I washed the artwork and darkened the
metallic came and solder with a chemical patina. Although I like to use a black
patina on almost everything I make, it's especially useful for making a
new panel like this one look old right away.
The panel was then crated and shipped to Pennsylvania.
