This canyon stained glass artwork is mounted
above the front door in a home in Castle Rock,
Colorado. The clients sent me three photographs, which I combined into
the final canyon design you see here. The colors are a bit off because
it was late in the afternoon before we finished this install.
 I
made this artwork with copper foil instead of lead came because
[1] it was so large I felt it needed the added rigidity that copper
foil would give it and [2] the complex shapes of the pieces would be
hard to do in lead came. This
panel measured four feet wide and 4.5 feet high, so I used an
extra-wide foil so that the finished leadlines would not be too thin.
Even though this increased the work involved signigicantly, I feel this
is important particularly when an artwork is located far from the
viewer's eye like this one.
The image to the right shows the front door as well. The door has a
large piece of frosted glass in it, so adequate light at ground level
was not an issue, and in fact, one purpose of this stained glass was to
reduce the amount of afternoon sunlight.
