In
the fall of 2019, I was
commissioned to make a custom stained glass poker table lampshade.
Above is the drawing I made for the client. Below, I am showing two
sets of photos for each of the long sides of the lampshade. I do this
to fully show the detail in this custom lampshade, which can be seen
with the human eye but not so well with a camera.
First
is the King of Clubs and Jack of Diamonds. The
face on the King of Clubs has been changed from its usual profile to
the corncob smoking hillbilly
that is one of the logos of Appalachian
Stated University, which is
the client's alma mater.
Above is a photo of the lampshade after it was hung over a professional
poker table (although these clients have ignored my consultation and
hung the lampshade from a single bracket on the ceiling when it should
have been hung from two brackets resulting in the two chains being
straight up and down). Below is the same lampshade prior to shipping.
You can see
how I make overlays out of zinc and lead and solder that
become the eyes and other facial features. Overlays that touch no other
metal parts cannot be soldered in place, and so they are affixed with
bits of very strong foam tape that is sticky on both sides.
Next is the Ace of Spades and the Queen of Hearts.
Once again, changes were made to personalize this lampshade for the
client. On this side, the Ace of Spades was changed to the Appalachian
State "A" with
the word "Mountaineers" in it, which is also one of the university
logos.

lampshade prior to shipping.
Below are photos of the bear and the fox added to the ends of this
artwork. They, too, are examples of personalizing a stained glass artwork to suit each client.
