In the
spring of 2023, I was
asked to replace old stained glass windows on a staircase in an
historic mansion in Denver, Colorado. The photo above shows the 18
panels I created for the 15 windows on the stairs.
During the design phase, I developed many design options for these
clients to consider. Once they chose the one they liked best, my task
was to come up with an overall design that would match along
the top but get longer as the height of the windows changed.
I used 3/16" lead came throughout this project.
Taking measurements at the beginning and installing the stained glass
at the end required me to climb tall ladders, which I am not overly fond
of. But everything went smoothly and the clients loved the results.
This is a project that will always be hard to photograph well because
different amounts of light come in through the different windows and
because it's almost impossible to stand back far enough to photograph
all of the windows at one time or to photograph them straight on. The photos above were taken while
standing on the second floor balcony looking down at the chandelier and
the stained glass.
