Sometimes, I'm asked to copy
things. I think it's OK to do this as long as my version of what is
copied is different enough from the original that it wouldn't be an
infringement of the copyright. I can usually achieve this to the
satisfaction of my client and still vary the result enough to make me
feel alright about it, too. Here, I was asked to do a stained glass
version of a painting by the renown painter Pablo Picasso.My
version has some
of the lines and the proportions changed as well as some of the colors.
This stained glass artwork includes many overlays, all of which were
darkened to black along with the leadlines by a chemical patina.
This
photo is rather dark because this artwork was mounted in a
basement window well window. It is the type of window that can be
opened so that people can escape from a basement when a fire blocks
their leaving by the stairs. The thick black vertical line actually
separates this artwork into two windows; the smaller one on the left is
fixed
while the larger one on the right can be opened by a crank in the lower
right-hand corner. In these already-existing windows, both stained
glass panels are mounted up against the two clear glass panes. This
means that the larger stained glass panel cranks open along with the
wood window frame its mounted in. This is a good example of how stained
glass can be mounted in just about any window, even bringing art to a tough spot like this. |
