I
created this stained glass
artwork depicting hollyhocks as a wedding present for dear friends. It
is my opinion that the theme of flowers in stained glass is very
over-done and often trite looking, so I do them only rarely or by
commission. I always try to come up with some depiction of flowers that
is unique or captivating or classy. I hope you like these. I do!
This artwork is much brighter than it appears
here, but retouching it seemed like a lot
of work, so I didn't. The background is two different textured clear
glasses. The flowers are made from glass with a "cats-paw" (colored
spots) texture, which is achieved by cooling spots on the molten sheet
of glass more quickly than the rest of the sheet through tiny holes in
the surface of the table on which the molten glass is "rolled" (using
air or water... I'm not sure which). The five small circles are faceted
glass "jewels". |
