Fine
crafts
is a sub-category
of the larger category of arts and crafts. Fine crafts generally refers
to one-of-a-kind artworks in a craft medium that exemplify the best or
near-best that the medium has to offer. Fine crafts does not
mean
certain craft media, where other media are excluded altogether. Any
craft medium has the potential to be taken to the level of fine crafts
by one or more of its practitioners. My work is an example of fine
crafts as it applies to stained glass.
These
eight stained glass windows match the decor by
depicting an abstract floral design
that was adapted from silk drapes that hang on another
set of windows in the same room as these stained glass windows.
These panels are not puttied. Putty
is applied to a leaded glass panel to make it airtight (and/or
weatherproof) and to hide flaws in the precision of the cutting and
leading of the glass. These panels do not need putty because they don't
face the outside world (i.e. they don't need to be weatherproof) and
because my glasscutting and lead construction techniques are so precise
that no flaws are visible even though the panels are leaded with the
smallest width of lead came commercially available... 1/8th inch.
