 Stained
glass church windows
are great projects
to work on. I get to interact with new and interesting people, learn
more about different religions while doing the research for the design,
and bask in the spiritual feeling I get while working on religious
projects in stained glass.
This particular church project required me
to duplicate
a stained glass design already present on the south wall windows of
this sanctuary (not shown). The full set of windows I created can be
seen at right, with details of the new windows shown below.
All of the stained glass windows were done
in 3/8" and
5/32" lead cames. The clear background glass was chosen to let in
maximum daylight while obscurring the cars in the church's parking lot
just outside these windows (see detail photo below).
The new stained glass windows were mounted
in oak
frames constructed to match the frames holding the pre-existing stained
glass windows. These oak frames were mounted on the interior side of
the existing clear glass, thus protecting the stained glass from the
weather and other outside influences.
